Gateway M500 Optical Drive Installation/Replacement Instructions

Warning: Disconnect the power adapter, disconnect the modem and network cables, and remove the battery. Replace the cover before restoring power or reconnecting the modem and network cables.

Note: Before beginning, review electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions.

Replacing Optical Drive

  1. Shut down the computer, and then disconnect the power adapter and modem and network cables.

  2. Turn the computer over, and then remove the battery.

  3. Remove the optical drive bay screw. It is located in the center of the system, where the memory bay and Mini PCI bays meet.
    Remove the optical drive bay screw.

  4. Slide the optical drive out of the chassis.
    Slide the optical drive out of the chassis.

  5. Insert the new optical drive.
    Insert the new optical drive.

  6. Replace the bay screw.
    Replace the bay screw.

  7. Insert the battery and turn the notebook computer over.

  8. Connect the power adapter and modem and network cables, and then turn on the notebook computer.
