Gateway 450SX4 Optical Drive Installation/Replacement Instructions

Warning: Disconnect the power adapter, disconnect the modem and network cables, and remove the battery. Replace the cover before restoring power or reconnecting the modem and network cables.

Note: Before beginning, review electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions.

This computer's modular bay supports different bay modules, such as an optical drive (CD, DVD, CD-RW, or combination DVD/CD-RW drive), a second hard drive, a floppy disk drive, or a secondary battery.

Changing a Bay Module

  1. If you are removing a CD, CD-RW, DVD, combination DVD/CD-RW or floppy disk drive, verify that the drive is empty.

  2. On the taskbar, click the remove hardware icon, select the drive you are removing, and then click Stop. Alternatively, turn off the computer. Do not place it in Standby or Hibernate mode.

Note: If the remove hardware icon does not appear on the taskbar, click the Show hidden icons button.

  3. Close the LCD panel.

  4. Undock the computer from the port replicator, if docked, and then turn the computer over.

  5. Slide and hold the bay module latch closest to the back of the computer.

  6. Slide the other bay module release latch. The module moves out slightly.

  7. Slide the bay module out.

  8. Firmly push the new bay module straight into the bay until the latch clicks into place.

  9. Turn the computer over, and then open the LCD panel.

  10. If the computer is on, click OK to continue working on the computer, or if the computer is off, turn it on
