Gateway NX270 Keyboard Installation Instructions

Note: Before beginning, review electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions.

Removing the keyboard

1. Shut down the computer, and then disconnect the power adapter.

2. Disconnect the the AC adapter, modem cable, and network cable.

3. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove any PC Cards.

4. Turn the computer over, and then remove the battery.
   1. Slide the battery lock to the unlock position.
   2. Slide the battery release latch.
   3. Slide the battery out of the bay.

5. With a small Phillips screwdriver, remove the three keyboard cover screws located in the battery bay, and put them in a safe place.
   

6. Turn your notebook over so the top is facing up, then open the LCD panel to the fully opened position.

7. Insert the small flat-blade screwdriver under the bottom right corner of the keyboard bezel (cover), and gently (so that you do not disconnect the cable) pry it up. Lay the bezel face-down on top of the LCD panel. Be careful not to damage the LCD panel or the cable connected to the bezel.
   

8. Lift the back edge of the keyboard slightly, then slowly push it toward the LCD panel to release the keyboard retaining tabs.
   

9. Slowly rotate the keyboard toward you so it lies keys-down on top of your notebook. Be careful not to damage the LCD panel.
   

10. Slide the brown keyboard connector clip to the front of the notebook and remove the keyboard cable. Be careful not to touch or damage any other components.
    

Installing the keyboard

1. Place the new keyboard keys-down on your notebook with the space bar away from you.

2. Make sure the brown keyboard connector clip is fully moved toward the front of the notebook, insert the keyboard cable into the keyboard connector, then slide the brown keyboard connector clip to lock the keyboard connector in place.

   Note: The cable is correctly oriented if it is not twisted.

3. Rotate the keyboard toward the LCD panel until the keyboard is almost face-up.

4. Insert the tabs on the front edge of the keyboard into the slot under the palm rest. It may be necessary to press down on the keyboard keys along the front edge of the keyboard to seat the retaining tabs into their corresponding slots.
   

5. Gently press the keyboard down until it is flat all the way across. The keyboard should easily fall into place. Be careful not to damage the LCD panel.

6. Replace the keyboard bezel (cover). Press down on the bezel in several places until it clicks in place. The bezel is correctly mounted when you can run you finger along the cover and find no loose spots. The bezel should be flat all the way across.

   Note: If the bezel is not correctly replaced, your notebook could be damaged when you try to close the LCD panel.

7. Close the LCD panel, then turn your notebook over so the bottom is facing up.

8. Replace the three keyboard cover screws.

9. Insert the battery, then turn your notebook over.

10. Connect the power adapter, the modem cable, and the network cable, then turn on your notebook.
