Gateway M675 Keyboard Installation Instructions

Note: Before beginning, review electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions.

Removing the keyboard

  1. Turn off your notebook.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter and modem and network cables.
  3. Disconnect your notebook from the optional port replicator.
  4. Turn your notebook over so the bottom is facing up.
  5. Remove the battery.
  6. Turn your notebook over so the top is facing up.
  7. Open the LCD panel to the fully open position.
  8. Slide the keyboard bezel to the right, then lift the bezel off your notebook.
  9. With a small Phillips screwdriver, remove the five keyboard screws and put them in a safe place.
  10. Lift the back edge of the keyboard, then move it to the back of your notebook. Be careful not to damage the LCD panel.
  11. Carefully insert the small flat-blade screwdriver between the keyboard cable and the black plastic hinge where the cable connects to the system board. Gently lift the hinge off the cable. The cable is now free and you can remove the keyboard.

To install the keyboard

  1. Place the new keyboard keys-up on your notebook with the space bar towards you. Be careful not to damage the LCD panel.
  2. Verify the black plastic hinge on the system board keyboard connector is in the raised position.
  3. Insert the end of the keyboard cable between the black plastic hinge and the white connector.
  4. Press the black plastic hinge onto the keyboard cable.
  5. Important: The plug is correctly oriented if the cable is not twisted.

  6. Lift the keyboard and insert the tabs on the front of it under the palm rest.
  7. Gently press the keyboard down until it is flat all the way across. The keyboard should easily fall into place.
  8. Replace the five keyboard screws.
  9. Lay the bezel back in its channel, with the right side of the bezel hanging over the edge of the notebook by approximately 1/4 inch.
  10. Slide the bezel back into place.
  11. Press down on the bezel in several places to make sure it is in place. The bezel is correctly mounted when you can run your finger along the bezel and find no loose spots. The bezel should be flat all the way across.
  12. Replace the battery, connect the power adapter and modem and network cables, then turn on your notebook.
