Gateway 450SX4 Hard Drive Installation Instructions

Note: Before beginning, review electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions
Replacing the Main Hard Drive
Warning: Disconnect the power adapter, disconnect the modem and network cables, and remove the main battery and optional secondary battery before removing the hard drive bay cover. Replace the cover before restoring power or reconnecting the modem and network cables.
- Shut down the computer, and then disconnect the power adapter and modem and network cables.
- Disconnect from the optional port replicator.
- Turn the computer over, and then remove the main battery and secondary battery, if installed.
- Remove the hard drive bay screw.
- Slide the hard drive kit away from the computer.
- If you are replacing the hard drive only:
- Remove the two screws securing the front bezel to the old hard drive and attach it to the new drive.
- Remove the black connector from the rear of the old drive and connect it to the new drive.
Caution: Carefully pull the connector straight back to avoid bending the pins.
- Slide the new hard drive kit into the computer.
- Replace the screw that secures the hard drive kit to the computer.
- Insert the batteries, and then turn over the computer.
- Reconnect the optional port replicator.
- Connect the AC adapter, modem and network cables, and then turn on the computer.
