Gateway 400SD4 Hard Drive Installation Instructions

Note: Before beginning, review electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions.

Replacing the Main Hard Drive

Warning: Disconnect the power adapter, disconnect the modem and network cables, and remove the main battery and optional secondary battery before removing the hard drive bay cover. Replace the cover before restoring power or reconnecting the modem and network cables.

1. Shut down the computer, and then disconnect the power adapter and modem and network cables.
2. Turn the computer over, and then remove the battery.
3. Remove the hard drive bay screws.
   
4. Slide the hard drive kit away from the computer.
   
5. Lift the end of the hard drive kit furthest from the connector, and then remove the drive kit from the bay.
   
6. Lay the new hard drive kit into the bay.
   
7. Slide the hard drive kit into the connector.
8. Replace the screws that secure the hard drive kit to the computer.
   
9. Insert the battery, connect the AC adapter, modem and network cables, and then turn on the computer.
